I have 300 hours in this game and just completed my first of undoubtedly many Eclipse 8 runs. I've seen quite literally everything this game has to offer. Despite that, I will probably dump hundreds more hours into it. Difficulty options, co-op, and artifacts make it easy to play the game exactly how you want to play even if you're a casual player. Other artifacts and Eclipse modes give people like myself craving a challenge options to keep doing runs when difficulty options aren't enough. The concept is cool, the levels are well crafted, the music is so good it's on my main playlists, and the gameplay is tight and makes it a delight to play. I'm a big fan of many roguelike games and this has become my favorite by far.

I wouldn't recommend this to most people, only big fans of rogue-likes. Risk of Rain 2 wasn't nearly as good as I expected from all the rave reviews online. I loved Hades and thought it was a 9/10 and like Binding of Isaac enough, but Risk of Rain 2 needed some more meta-progression between runs and more focus on the story to grab me.

The gameplay is definitely fun and I appreciated the variety of playstyles with the different characters. The Loader and Bandit were the most fun by far to me and a few characters were just boring and a slog to play. The lack of map variety and randomly generated environments took away from the rogue-like aspect for me, though the enemy variety was good enough. The items were fairly varied, though as I learned more about the game there were clear standouts of best items to go for, for pretty much every character, which made the game even less variety than I expected. The lack of more unique combos you can do with items, compared to Hades and Binding of Isaac, made playing the game over and over less enjoyable.

Overall, I played on Drizzle the whole time and didn't have any desire to play on harder difficulties or get more achievements after unlocking every character and beating the game with almost all characters (fuck you game for killing me with Captain in bullshit Mithrix fights). I think more unique boss fights and varied gameplay experiences with item combinations would have made the game more fun. And the story being shown in cinematics and with some dialogue would have been really nice, since it seems like there is some good lore in the series but it isn't shown much at all.

This game is immaculate. The soundtrack is out of this world and the pacing feels fantastic. Every time I die, I feel like when I die, my death is on me and me alone. The difficulty scaling and learning curve have had me hooked. The only, and I really mean the ONLY drawback this game has for me is that I don't find all the characters that interesting. But I just main the one that I find the most satisfying to play; The Ranger. And oh. my. gosh. He feels amazing to control! And honestly... That drawback isn't enough to pull the score down for me. This is one of my favorite video games ever.

Roguelite shooter with really great visuals, but not a whole lot in terms of meta progression and variety over time. Different characters are a bit too much work to unlock and their power levels are vastly different such that you will always end up picking one of the 3 strong heroes anyway.

The gameplay loop is fun, the variety of characters and unlockables always leaves me with something to do and the worlds become very familiar once you've put in the hours. That being said, I always find myself avoiding certain characters because they just aren't nearly as fun to use as the others. Personally, I think this game would benefit from having more balanced characters and more ways to break the game without having to redo the cycle at least once.

Vi Forsøgte mange gange på måske normal sværhedsgrad (vi valgte ingen sværhedsgrad, så antager den defaulter til normal) og kom nogen gange til banen før sidste bane - og blev fuldstændig rundbarberet hver gang. Spillet bliver hurtigt meget svært hvis man har haft et ikke-optimalt run mht loot og penge. Til sidst satte vi den på easy og gennemførte spillet i første hug - men det tog alligevel en hel time at lave et easy complete run. Spillet blev forholdsvist hurtigt ensformigt.

Ainda é sim um Roguelite dos mais clássicos, sem melhorias durante o jogo e segredos que não acabam, porém agora todo baseado em áreas enormes pré renderizadas com a dificuldade procedural já conhecida do anterior. Tudo tem uma ótima coesão, vastos demais em melhorias temporárias, escala da dificuldade boa e rica seleção de personagens. A curva de dificuldade inicial realmente pode ser um empecilho grande para alguns mesmo na menor nível, mas quando se passa essa barreira, vicia demais.

This game took me a long time to get into. I tried to get into this game 3 or 4 different times. When it finally clicked I became hooked. It has a really fun game play loop. It is just fun to play.

I hated that it was timed and that there was no map and that I had to find a random portal. After I learned more about the game and how to play and how to do well, those concerns were not a problem anymore.

It is really fun to see where each run goes, because they are very different from each other. The different characters that you can play are pretty unique and your items make up very different builds.

This game doesnt hold your hand. It does not explain anything to you. You just jump in and play. As you play you learn and become better. There are so many things about this game that I still dont know and could find and learn if I keep playing.

such an awesome game. really had no idea what i was getting into here but it ended up being such a fun, fresh experience. although its quite daunting at first, once you get a grasp of the games mechanics it becomes incredibly satisfying. theres many different characters to unlock, so many different loadouts, items and ways to play. im new to roguelites, but i still had a blast with this. not to mention the simple but stylized graphical style, the impressive performance and KILLER soundtrack! however, this game truly gets good in multiplayer. blasting through these stages with other people is even more fun than doing it alone. i cant imagine trying to do some of these bosses alone, lol. i will be returning to this game again and again to try new characters, levels, and strategies, and i cant wait for it!

Risk of Rain 2 is a game which reminded me why i hate roguelike and roguelite games. It's a game praised for its gameplay loop but ultimately when you die its all over, making the game an actual waste of time. Personally, i was on my 5th run and decided to play with the first character. After about 30 minutes i was at the final boss level, stage 6 and as i was running through the level i see a large flying island with reforging item wells. Turns out that it was impossible to jump back to the main path which i learned the hard way after sacrificing 20 minutes of my life trying to save my run. Very unfortunate that the devs didnt even consider that some players might not even have jump mobility items.
Perhaps the only redeeming quality of the game is the mod support which i might try sometime in the future instead of playing the broken base game. I truly don't know why it has 96% positive on steam or even 85 on metacritic. Players' standards have fallen low.

6th run i played with the archer and beat the final boss, king of nothing. Basically, the game is good if you're struggling financially and only buy one game per year. For players like me who like to experience as many games as possible, the roguelike genre really isn't my cup of tea. 7/10 Good.

Game was incredibly fun. Replay-ability is on point and the scale of play is great. No 2 runs should be the same and there are plenty of mods to keep the gameplay feeling fresh. In terms of story there is lore but it doesn't tie together great. Definitely a must play for those who haven't already.
